"Well, here I go yet again...Watch me, watch me closely as I tell the tale of my life as it reaches its end..."
Well, the next day Himitsu was the first to awaken. She opened her eyes with a yawn and a stretch and then looked about the area. Her gaze coming to rest on me, she chuckled softly besides herself, just as Max awoke. Poking her slightly she giggled and pointed towards me. Max wasn't fully yet awake and as she came to, I had awoken, my sapphire-blue eyes opening softly. As it turned out, I had shifted positions in my sleep and my head had come to rest in Rae's lap while the rest of me was curled up beside him. His hand having come to rest around my shoulders in a sort of tender and gentle gesture. Gasping I pulled back blushing. And Himitsu started laughing. Max looked at me and smiled warmly, before she looked about the area.
Jake was still sleeping soundly beside her. Logan apparently had left earlier this morning, according to what Himitsu said, and Ace was crashed out at the foot of the stairs. She chuckled faintly to herself at Ace, and then looked back at Himitsu, gaze then returning to Rae and I.
Rae was now awake and glanced at us, blinking. I was now sitting up, with my legs curled underneath me. One hand resting in my lap, the other, resting just beside me. I glanced towards the clock it was already eight forty-seven in the morning. But, today was Saturday, and so sou. There was no school, but then I remembered Mina and Jou, my eyes widened just slightly then.
"Oh no..." I said, and Himitsu glanced at me.
"Hm?"
I uncurled myself and then stood brushing myself off. "I am sorry, but Rae and I need to get home...Mina and Jou are probably wondering where the heck we are."
"I can walk you back," offered Himitsu.
"Iie, iie..that's fine, we'll just be off. I am terribly sorry."
I then glanced at Max. "Will you--be all right?"
Max nodded. "I'll be fine."
Then I nodded in response just as Rae stood up. I glanced at Himitsu and flashed her one of my gentle smiles before Rae and I turned and then left the house.
Himitsu then turned to Max. "Well, I suppose I had best head off as well." Glancing at Ace, "Ahum..I take it Jake will take him home?" Max nodded.
"Yeah, more-than-likely."
"Alrighty then, I'm off. Take care all." Then she turned and left the house as well, leaving Max, Jake, and Ace alone together.
Max sighed and then leaned down nuzzling at Jake's hair, before curling back up and drifting back into slumber against him.
Well, Rae and I finally did get home around nine o' seven or so, and still Mina and Jou were not home. But the door was unlocked...probably due to the fact that I must have forgotten to lock it when I headed out last night. Nothing seemed out of place, so the house obviously hadn't been broken into while we were away, as for which I was thankful. So I knew that the reason for the door still left open was in effect because of my own absentmindedness.
Rae had wandered into his room, and I headed into my own just across the hallway. Opening my door, I felt a chilled breeze, then having realized that I had left my window open. Inari..how many things had I left open when I left? I mustn't have been thinking at all...Shaking my head I began to wandered about my room heading over to the closet to find some fresh clothes. I settled on a baby-pink t-shirt that had a white rose embroidered into the fabric, and a pair of jeans that were designed to look faded. I was just brushing out my hair when I heard a tap on the window. Setting down my brush I walked back over to my now closed window and opened it, just as Himitsu leapt in.
"Hiya, Fox," she said happily. Blinking I responded with a meek, "konnichiwa." Himitsu then wandered into my room. I followed her and noticed that she had changed her clothes as well, and was now wearing a crimson red t-shirt that read 'Nobody dies a virgin, like screws us all' in messy black lettering. Again she was wearing black jeans and black sandals. Her long raven-winged black hair fell to her waist in waves of said raven.
"Himitsu," I finally spoke up. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, I just came to see if you and Rae made it home safe and sound," was my friend's only response as she folded her hands idly behind her back, and it was hard to tell if it was just a subconscious act or if there was more meaning to it.
"Hai, we did. As you can plainly see." I slipped the ponytail-holder off my wrist and brushing back my reddish-brown hair with my hands I tied said locks into a low ponytail that fell to about my mid-back. Just as there was a knock on my bedroom door.
"Sakuuya?" came Rae's voice from beyond the door. I glanced at Himitsu who just shrugged, as I walked to the door and opened it just a bit.
"What's wrong?" I asked politely.
"Oh," said Rae glancing over my shoulder and seeing Himitsu wandering about my room. "When did she get here? I don't remember hearing the door..."
"I have ways, Rae.." came Himitsu's voice calmly from behind me. I glanced at her, but her gaze was on the window, and her attention was drawn a way from us. So then with another shake of my head and a soft sigh I turned back to Rae.
"Anyhow..was there--something that you wanted to tell me, Rae?" I asked gently, and Rae held up his cell phone.
"Mina and Jou called. They've hit some pretty rough traffic, so they won't be home for a while...and Jou has come to the conclusion that they may just be spending a few more days there..."
"Oh, really?" I said curiosly, stepping out from my room to join Rae in the hallway, I heard Himitsu giggle as I shut the door.
Don't do anything that I wouldn't, came her voice in my mind telepathically.
Oh damare, I shot back at her in thought-speech. Another mental giggle met my ears from my friend.
Shaking my head I took the phone from Rae, and heard Mina's voice on the other end. She told me that they had hit really bad traffic, and that they had thought about spending a few more days up where they were. She asked if Rae and I had been eating properly, and asked if we would be all right with the arrangements for just a bit longer. Sighing I told her that we would be fine. I heard her say, "Ii, we'll be home in about four days then, take care, dear. Aishiteiru," and then the phone clicked as she hung up.
Sighing again I handed Rae's phone back to him.
"Tsk," he said. "That doesn't surprise me...since we have come to live with them here, they have begun to go on more and more trips, and begin to stay away from the house more and more, since we have gotten older." He glared slightly down at the floor.
"Rae," I reasoned softly. "The fact is just that..you and I are both now sixteen years old. I think we can afford to take care of ourselves for a while..."
"Yeah," said Rae, "but their idea of 'for a while' and your's, are two entirely different opinions. Theirs is like for weeks and yours is just like for four days...Dammit." He shook his head and kicked at the carpeted floor. I glanced at him softly, and then he brought his soft blue-green eyes to meet my dark blue gaze. "Do you honestly think that they care anymore? Do you really think they had ever cared? What if one of us were to run away...would they care then?"
"Rae..." I said softly, then reached out and gently took him in my arms, embracing him. "Of course they would care...They do care. Some things though...just can't be helped."
"Well, they don't make the attempt to better them..." he replied dryly. Sighing I closed my eyes and just held him for a while.
"It'll be fine...we can manage."
Suddenly the door opened behind us, and revealed Himitsu to us standing there. Expression seeming to have softened, as it became clear that she had heard Rae's and my conversation. As well as our conversation with Mina and Jou. "Fox is right," said Himitsu, and Rae looked up and over my shoulder at her. My hands still wrapped around him in the embrace.
"Besides.." said Himitsu, voice softening. "It is the running away that is going to get you killed." Surprised I pulled away from Rae and turned to face her.
"What do you mean, Himitsu?" I asked slightly unnerved.
"I mean, just as I said, Sakuuya...The only thing that any of us can do is stand and fight this all out...because if we run, then it is the running away that is going to get us killed," replied Himitsu softly.
"I don't understand," I said turning to fully face her. "What do you mean?" Himitsu pulled away and turned her back to me.
"I received a phone call today..."
My heart rushed in my chest. Himitsu's father was in the army, and he had left earlier this month off on a mission to England, and usually whenever she, or her father got a call it was military based.
"And?" I pressed uneased, afraid to know what was coming next. Himitsu did not answer me immediately, and so as such I stepped towards her and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Himitsu..what has happened?"
At last she spoke up. "Fox, my father's dead." She said it so bluntly, so vaguely that I winced just slightly.
It's all right, she didn't mean it like that, I told myself. She is just having troubles with coming to grips with it..that's all.
"Oh..Kira...I-I'm sorry...." I whispered softly, voice taken with sorrow.
Himitsu just chucked ruefully. "You don't have to apologize, Fox. You didn't do anything..."
"I know," I said, "but I just felt that I needed to say it."
"Don’t bother," said Himitsu coolly as she pulled away from my hand, and walked towards the window.
"Himitsu..." But the name barely slipped past my lips and then she had turned and slipped out my bedroom window. I just stood there and watched her as she left. Rae walked up beside me.
"Poor Kira..."
I glanced at him gently, the nodded turning back to my window.
"Give her time," I said calmly, softly. "All she needs in some time..."
I didn't see Himitsu again at all today...I figured that she had just wandered off someplace to be alone, and to just--think. Maybe she went to see Logan, I don't know...I just hope that wherever she went, that she is all right...
But I don't know..and now I am worried...
Gomen ne, but I think I am going to sign out for the night, all. Take care, and ja ne.
Secrets here are hidden bare..until the time at last comes for them to finally be revealed....
